I am interested both in a number of areas of fundamental fluid mechanics and in the application of fluid mechanics to understand a variety of processes in the Earth Sciences. Some indication of the range of my interests is provided by the following topics

• Capillary pinch-off and surface tension driven flows
• Porous media flows and CO₂ sequestration
• Fluid driven crack propagation and dykes
• Viscous gravity currents and lava flows
• Elastic deformations and flow
• Particle-laden flows, turbidity currents and sedimentation
• The thermodynamics and fluid dynamics of the Earth’s core
• Similarity solutions and finite-time singularities
• Flows with solidification or temperature-dependent viscosity
